Every year, 12.7 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans – the equivalent of a garbage truck every minute. However, the smallest piece of plastic is a threat to biodiversity since it can trap, suffocate, strangle, kill, marine animals. However, one form of plastic pollution is particularly dangerous for marine life as it is designed to catch and kill marine animals: lost or abandoned fishing devices, also known as “ghost gear”.

L'innovation

Innovation should have no limit except our imagination! In a world where waste invades us, let’s learn to transform it, to sublimate it. In an industry that has been static for decades, let’s try to bring the winds of change.

At Nomads we want to propose projects with positive impact for the planet by committing to recycling waste, eco-design and responsible production. This is how Nomads Surfing fins were born, created from end-of-life fishing nets or recovered from the sea.

Ghost fishing net

Our fins respond directly to a strong environmental problem since it concerns the pollution of the oceans by fishing nets found on beaches or in the open sea. Ghost fishing nets represent 10% of the waste found in our oceans and 50% of the plastic of the 7th continent.

The concept is broken down into 5 stages, from the recovery of the abandoned nets to the final injection into the mold. The objective is to have a 100% eco-friendly product in accordance with the principles of the circular economy, to transform waste into a new product.

Un impact environnemental minime

To further reduce our impact on the environment, our fins are made in France, near Thiers. We worked with the company APA Injection, a family business which allows us to promote French know-how.

The fact of manufacturing these fins locally and using material from Spain allows us to reduce our carbon footprint by 40% compared to 90% of the market that comes from Asia. When you buy at Nomads Surfing you are making a concrete gesture for the protection of the ocean.

LA NATURE COMME HERITAGE

They have lived on this earth for over 60 million years. Feet in the sand, a few kilometers from the ocean. They have withstood all the storms and all the follies of men. They gave us their greatest gift, an incredible material, with countless uses. It took men, the heirs of a long forgotten tradition, to revive and sublimate cork. Today we are proud to present the first pad made from French cork oaks. At the heart of a relocated industry, our mission is to support and perpetuate French know-how by offering surfers the best alternative to preserve the ocean.

Une production locale

The cork industry in Gascony is now in full revival. By working with French companies, we want to promote know-how and encourage the local economy. The Region and the Department of Landes are mobilizing to relaunch this sector.

Our partner is a company labeled " Living Heritage ", a mark of recognition from the State set up to distinguish French companies with exceptional know-how. This pad is an exceptional product.

Innovation serving the environment

At NOMADS we want to offer eco-designed but also innovative products.
This is why for all our tail pad models, the tail is separated, which can be placed alone on the board.

We also wanted to offer a special model, the PROGRESSION PAD, designed to allow surfers in full progress to learn how to better place their back foot on the board for better control. Check out our blog post on the subject.

Un impact environnemental minime

Our traction pads, made in the Landes, are made from 65% recycled corks, 20% cork scrap and 15% Landes cork bark. The circular economy is at the heart of our challenges and offering products made from recycled materials allows us to reduce the carbon footprint of our pad by 62% compared to a virgin EVA foam traction pad from Asia.

Recycled corks are sorted, cleaned, crushed and then agglomerated directly at our suppliers. Natural cork comes from the Landes culture, the most northerly of Europe. We can thus offer you an accessory which will have traveled less than 300km for its manufacture.
