It is difficult to reconcile online shopping and energy sobriety: the explosion of e-Commerce has considerably changed our habits and especially our consumption of packaging. Since the creation of Nomads, we have been doing everything possible to reduce our impact on the planet by using recycled cardboard for our packaging. Despite this, the more packages we send, the more boxes we consume and the more our customers throw away…

In order to limit the single use of the latter, we are now working with the Finnish company RePack which offers reusable packaging!

Reusable packaging

Developed by Finnish designers, RePack packaging is very practical. The real advantage of this system is that the life of the packaging does not end when it arrives at the customer's premises, unlike most single-use packaging used to deliver goods. The packaging returned by the customer is then collected by RePack, quality controlled at RePack's logistics center, cleaned and reused.

Reusable at least 40 times

A RePack is used at least 40 times before it has to be recycled. In contrast, single-use packaging is made, used and discarded for each use. Repack packaging is made of a strong, waterproof and abrasion-resistant material, so there is no risk of a nasty surprise upon receipt. Repack is currently operating with a return rate of up to 80%.

The design

RePack reusable packaging, made of durable and recycled polypropylene, is available in 3 different sizes. They are designed to be easily folded to letter size when empty. It is also a service that guarantees the delivery of the packaging and its return thanks to a reward system.

Carbon impact

By the second use, the Repack is 31% less polluting than plastic packaging and 21% less polluting than cardboard packaging. These percentages only decrease the more the RePack is used, reaching 78% and 75% difference after the 20th use. As a comparison, a Repack used and sent back to Finland will consume 35g of C02 while an email with a large attachment will consume about 40g and the use of a cardboard box about 100g.
Packing and sending surfboards when selling online is often a real pain point for companies and customers. Indeed the risk of breakage is important.

In order to guarantee an optimal transport of the boards sold on our site, we use the Flexi-hex solution. 100% recyclable and biodegradable, these specially designed packages for the transportation of surfboards, also helps to reduce our impact on the environment. We were able to stop using plastic in our packaging.

Flexi-hex manufactures its packaging from cardboard that is assembled in less than 2 minutes and has a high resistance to compression. The cardboard is strong and durable. The sleeves are designed not only to protect the rails, but also the deck, nose and tail. Flexi-hex consists of two open modular sleeves cut to size and attached at the center point. The honeycomb structure is flexible and creates a separation of about 3 centimeters with the surfboard.
