A Nomads Surfing Adventure

Embark on a Nomads Surfing adventure in the far reaches of the Philippines with Thomas, Basile and Nicolas, the three founders.

The setting is magical, almost unreal: a remote, wild island, incredible flora and fauna, turquoise water covering a stretch of white sand, the promise of a wave that no one has yet surfed... A little corner of paradise.

The Nomads team, accompanied by Laurent and his son Jérémie, had come in search of the perfect wave. But the adventure would take a different turn.

The finding is more alarming than expected: despite its isolation, this island is also affected by the harmful effects of pollution and climate change, which have an impact on biodiversity and local communities.

There, the Nomads team met Scott Countryman, an American living in the Philippines who founded The Coral Triangle Conservancy several years ago with the aim of developing the Banua marine reserve and protecting the coral reef.

Protect the coral reef

This reserve is located on an island off the coast of Coron, on the west coast of the Philippines. It is a true sanctuary for exceptional tropical flora and fauna, including dugongs, turtles, and manta rays. However, this fragile balance is threatened, and the Tagbanua community, direct descendants of the first Filipinos living on the island, fights daily for its protection.

The success of their conservation project determines the future of this reserve.

The Philippines is a country where life is intimately linked to the ocean and its resources, which are crucial for the majority of the population. But the use of illegal techniques such as dynamite and cyanide, as well as rising temperatures and ocean acidification, threaten marine ecosystems more than ever.

The consequences? This explosion will kill all living organisms in the surrounding area, including, of course, the coral. This damage is irreversible. Alongside Scott, the Nomads Surfing team is determined to contribute to the preservation of the seabed in this marine reserve currently being created.

Preserve the Ocean

This is the very DNA of Nomads Surfing.

Protect the ocean from devastating human practices, safeguard this incredible biodiversity and raise awareness of the challenges of marine pollution.

Between "exploration" expeditions of the island and moments of sharing with the local communities, the Nomads Surfing team went to meet the locals who are passionate and dedicated to the preservation of their environment, and worked with them to clean the beaches and preserve the coral reefs.

A human adventure

So yes, it's a fact: the surfing conditions weren't ideal. The human experience, however, was magical.

Taking part in a project with a strong impact on ocean protection undeniably fuels Nomads Surfing's commitment. Discovering an exceptional yet vulnerable natural environment is a story that transforms through adventures and encounters. The ocean is a treasure to be preserved, protected, and cherished.

Today more than ever.
